#1 Scent Control Flaw!
WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE FLAW IN THE SCENT CONTROL REGIMEN OF MOST HUNTERS?

THE FAMILY WASHER AND DRYER!
Your washer is probably heavily contaminated with odors from fragrant detergents and fabric softeners.  It is also contaminated with human scent and residue, as well as pet dander, hair , and residues.

Here is a picture of an area under the rubber door seal of a washer.

Much of the residue here is dog hair from an Irish Wolfhound named Zeke.

It so happens that this area of the washer can be reached and cleaned.  But what about all the dog hair collected on the outside of the washer tub?  You can't get at it without taking the washer apart.  There are many other crevices and compartments that can't be reached without tearing the washer apart.  Imagine how hard it is to remove the residual detergent odors and softener odors in the compartments shown below.

This stuff is caked on so heavily that several washing cycles won't remove it.  The only way to remove it is to disassemble the machine and scrub everything down.  You might as well spray your clothes with perfume afterward if you are going to use that washer!

You have 3 alternatives.
  • Hand wash your clothing and hang it to dry
  • Buy your own washer and dryer for use only with deer hunting detergents and clothing.
  • Well ahead of the season, disassemble and clean the washer basin and remove or clean the fabric softener receptacle.  Carefully clean the dryer basin.  Do all of your clothing for the year and bag it or bin it. Or ban the use of scented detergents and fabric softeners for the season, or plan on redoing the disassembling and cleaning.

If you are still being winded by deer while using good scent reduction clothing and a careful scent reduction regimen, you may have contaminated your clothing by using the family washer.  Don't blame the scent elimination products!
