Activated carbon suits are great for helping reduce scent coming off the body, but they do not contain nearly enough carbon to handle the large volume of gases that come from human breath. Rather than the usual activated carbon veil worn by many hunters, the Breathbuster masks are form fitting silk masks with changeable carbon inserts. One insert will last for numerous hunts.
Breathbuster consists of a light reusable outer mask and a carbon filter insert. They are a high quality product invented and manufactured by I Can Breathe, Inc. a company that became famous when elite athletes wore their special high tech masks in Beijing to protect their lungs from air pollution during the 2008 Olympic Games. These masks contain high amounts of carbon and are far superior to the disposable hunting masks sold in retail stores.
ADVANTAGES:
- The reusable portion of the mask is lightweight and can be cleaned for reuse
- Adjustable ear loops and a flexible nose bar provide a very tight seal to prevent the escape of unfiltered air
- They are comfortable and are form fitting, and thin so they do not hinder the bow-hunters form
- Some bow hunters using a kisser button find the mask doesn't interfere with their feel
- For those who want nothing between them and the string, they simply pull it down below their chin before engaging
It is easy to tell when the replaceable filter finally needs to be changed (usually after 5-10 hunts depending on how long you stay in the woods). When you can start smelling odors then the filter needs to be changed. You simply do the sniff test on something with a strong odor.
Another amazing test is to wear one for a couple of hours. When you take it off, your smell receptors, which have been rested, will be overwhelmed with ambient odors in the woods that you would not normally be able to smell. The mask will also protect you from inhaling Scentbuster Dust when working with it or wearing it on your skin.
